Who We Are

Our Vision

At First Baptist Church Homer, our vision is to:

Transform this community and the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ has the power to change the world.  God is our creator and He has designed the world to operate a certain way.  Because of the brokenness that was caused by sin, mankind chooses to operate in a way that is different from what God designed.  This has caused our society to be filled with trouble.

When we understand our need for Jesus, accepting Him as our Savior and Lord, and live by God’s design revealed to us through the Bible, our lives will be changed.  When individual lives change, a community can change and the world can change.

Our Mission

Honor the Lord

Observe His Commands

Minister in His Name

Encourage His People

Reach with His Love

How does our Mission and Vision work practically in our church?

HONOR THE LORD is defined as Worship.  It is the dedication of our entire lives to God.  It is expressed through praise, worship, studying God’s Word, prayer and living out our faith at all times.  It is expressed practically primarily through our Sunday Morning Worship Service.  It is expressed, secondarily, in every event that takes place through our church.

OBSERVE HIS COMMANDS is defined as Discipleship.  It is commitment to becoming like Jesus, seeking to follow His example, taking on His character.  It is a process of study by which we discover how to live for and in Jesus Christ.  It is expressed practically through our Discipleship Classes.  These classes include both spiritual and personal development founded on the Bible.

MINISTER IN HIS NAME is defined as Ministry.  It is the practice of serving God by serving others.  It is the practice of doing what God asks us to do and living our faith in a practical manner.  It is expressed through the various Ministries of our Church.

ENCOURAGE HIS PEOPLE is defined as fellowship.  It is the dedication that the church has for our own people.  It is our love and concern for one another.  When you become a member at First Baptist Church, you dedicate yourself to the people of First Baptist Church.  You enter into a family, a community of faith.  We dedicate ourselves to the wellbeing of each other.  Knowing that ability to encourage one another is limited by time, we commit to focusing on a small group through a Sunday School class.  We encourage everyone to be involved in a Sunday School class so that no one is overlooked or neglected in the fellowship of the church.

REACH WITH HIS LOVE is defined as missions.  It is the task of evangelizing our community and the world for Jesus Christ.  It is the work of accomplishing the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20 and Acts 1:8).  It is expressed through our Missions Projects and Trips and Focuses and Offerings and through the everyday opportunities of sharing your faith with those you are in contact with.

Our Method

It might seem to be an impossible task to transform the community and the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  You might ask what could you do to be a part of accomplishing this vision.

Jesus said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”  We take this challenge by each one of us becoming a fisher of men.  We each take the responsibility to be a minister of the Gospel.  We each agree to do our part.  We embrace the HOMER mission in our lives.  We each agree to Honor, Observe, Minister, Encourage and Reach with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
